The Brighter Side

I'm on the other side of a nearly three day migraine today.  Even this morning I was still not feeling that well.  Often when I'm in a migraine I don't know if it will get better or worse as the day progresses.  This was one from an unknown trigger and completely caught me off guard.  It started with me not feeling well and ignoring it and doing the many things I wanted and needed to do that day.  I do this too often; not listen to my body.  Though to be fair it doesn't seem to matter for the duration of a migraine.  It has it's own agenda and once in one there is little I can do to get out.  I can get relief, enough to marginally function, feed the family (it's why I keep boxed and frozen foods in the house), run the kid to her things (collapse in bed after), but little else.  But then, like magic it seems, the cloud lifts and I'm me again.  I can do things without wanting to pass out, my brain isn't full of cotton, I don't feel nauseous and starving all at once.  This afternoon that happened.  It was late afternoon and I was starting to give up on feeling better today.  I go through the entire migraine with hope and wishes to feel better any moment.  We got back from running errands, it was hot, I was tired.  But a normal hot and a normal tired; a June hot, an end of a long day tired.  Then instead of lying down the Bug and I went to the pool.  Something I rarely want to deal with on Wednesdays after running errands when I am feeling well.  But today I knew I could and I wanted to. So we did.  I haven't caught up on the dishes or the cleaning (you can see I need to vacuum), it'll be another day or more until all of that happens.  But I went to the pool with my daughter.  Then after she went to bed, I didn't lye still trying not to fall asleep at 7pm, I listened to an audio book and spun quite a bit of that roving.  Now I'm going to stay up later than I have in days to read.  It feels good to feel good.
Now if only those dishes would stop staring at me.

Purple Cheese

Finished Purple Cheese.  Ok so I didn't finish the entire last ball.  I was starting to feel rather stabby stabby with the needles.   It's plenty long and I'm done.

I told The Bug the pattern is called Swiss Cheese.
"Oh, now the holes make sense"
She liked this way of wearing it.  She wanted to model it tied around her waist as she always wears her scarves.  This isn't her scarf she isn't doing that to this piece.
Almost two balls of Malabrigo lace weight.  Almost two months of knitting.  Oh my why did it take so long!  It's garter with cast ons and cast offs.  It was the ons and offs and the counting and the counting wrong that took so long.
It's going to be a Holiday gift.

Blueberries You are My Cherry

The other evening we went Blueberry and
cherry picking.  Evening I say. An odd time for us to be out and about.  We are boring homebodies like that.
I got a good haul.  I have no idea what the cat's deal was she was all sorts of rubbing the boxes down.  Actually this was the night she was rolling around in my shorts.  After I took them off.  Really people.
Tonight I made a blueberry coleslaw.  The recipe was in a Better Homes and Gardens.  For reasons unknown to all I get Better Homes and Gardens.  Sometimes, ok often, I veganize recipes in it.  They are, to me, intriguingly American.  This was pretty tasty.  As was the Cucumber, Gin & Tonic recipe that was in the magazine.  I've recently learned that I like Gin & Tonics.  Who knew.
The evening we got back from picking the berries I made these lovlies.  Blueberry Donuts.  Oh yes these babies are amazingly good!  Why did I make them right then when we got home you ask?  Mr. Gnome has been off these past five days, thus I haven't blogged.  We were planning a trip downtown to do some stuff, see some things.  I'd planned a picnic, Egglessalad sandwiches from the Vegan Sandwiches book.  A big hit really Mr. Gnome loves his egg salad and this vegan homage was a success.  Followed by these lovely donuts.  Thus the reason I was up until midnight making them with the freshly picked blueberries.  Ok the Real reason I was up that long is because the recipe calls for apple sauce and I am out of apple sauce.  So I was all I have apples I can just make apple sauce.  I do this to myself.
Satisfaction.

When Geekdoms Colide

Yesterday the June Cookie A. Sock Club packet came out and I got my yarn.  The patterns are both Star Trek in theme.  I'm doing the Spock Socks.  The Bug is very distressed that the color is wrong.  Another knitter in the club said it's to illicit an emotional response.  I liked that.  And it's the wrong color for Tiberius as well.  And I'm to insane to knit another sock with the sock club yarn.  It must be with one of the patterns.  I have problems.  Anyhow.  One of the cookie recipes is Jammy Dodgers (Collisions abound!).  I made mine with the last of last year's preserves, blueberry-cherry.  I forgot to cut a whole out of the top cookies half.  Now they cannot make anything self destruct.  But they are tasty.

Blueberry Pi

Pi to the 67th place.  35 on the first sock 32 on the second.  The designer has you add one to each number so when you get to a 0 you have something to knit.  This bothered my OCD number loving brain.  So I did double yos balanced with double decreases for the 0 rounds.
I like them.  They are blue and seemingly random.  Somehow there is a row of 0 right before I started the ribbing on both socks.  Oh Pi you never cease to amaze!
The second sock has more 0s.  I was concerned about where they'd fall.  I really couldn't have them happen when the heel needed to happen.  But it all worked out.
The darker blue is Verb for Keeping Warm in Indigo and I have no idea what the light blue is.  Something left over from a pair of baby socks I made forever ago.

Ambitious or Delusional

I joined this Mystery Knit Along.  The designer is Elena Nodel, the designer of the last three things I've knit the Bug.  I'm pretty sure it'll be great. I don't have any DK yarn in the stash.  It's an odd weight and not something most people just have lying about.  And I've been really good about only buying for specific projects.  Accept for sock yarn.  But I know it'll be for a sock.  Probably.  Sock yarn doesn't count.  I'm also being good about not buying yarn this year.  At least until The Big Trip.  ha ha ha.  More on that.
I did have some white roving I'd gotten in the holiday gift exchange.  I'm all but certain it'll be enough.
So I dyed it in all The Bug colors.  Yellow and Red make Orange.
Now all I need to do is spin it up in time for the MKAL start date of July 1.  Yeah....that's it.

Yarn Alonging

I'm still reading Lord of Chaos.  Almost done.  But I did get a new cookbook!  The summer plan is to go on a few road trips.  Mr. Gnome and I used to do this a lot but kid and life just have been getting in the way.  This summer I hope to reintroduce our love of a good road trip.  However, eating a vegetarian diet in the boonies can be a bit more adventurous than I like.  Not to mention bringing ones own food is cheaper.  So I bought a book on Sandwiches.  Saving money already.....  I've made one thing so far, Peanut Butter Banana Bacon Sandwiches, and brought it for dinner at Shakespeare in the Park.  It was tasty and the performance was fun.
The sock up there is the second Pi sock.  I think I'll be calling them Blueberry Pi.

Skirty

I made a skirt for me and one for The Bug.
Cheezy picture.  Mr. Gnome said we weren't looking happy at first.  Mine is fabric I found at the Upcycle exchange.  It's thin non-natural something.  But it's blue and I like it.  The skirt has a zipper and button closure, a waistband and is gathered where it attaches to the waistband.  I've realized that I like a gathered skirt so much more than an a-line.  It has more flounce to go with my natural flounce.  And it's easier to sit on the ground in.
The green in The Bug's is also from the Upcycle exchange and the tan is leftover from backing the last commissioned quilt.  The green is a circle style skirt with the tan being straight rectangles attached to it.  Makes the hem easier to do.  Just an elastic waist as is great for a kid.  Better movement and easier to adjust if needed.
Some buggy something has been interested in the gloves, scarf and hat baskets.  I hung them up to get some air and have now put them away for the season.  It's almost embarrassing how much there is.  Almost.

May

May was pretty yellow.  Odd bit of blue at the beginning and some unexpected green towards the end.  Record number of three in the rows; being three there were two back in January.
20 Hexipuffs.  Not bad.  Bringing our total to 256 which means we are more than half way there!!!!!!   There's a white whale, some odd cabley o things, a fox head and the Mad Hatter's Hat.
